FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – There are a lot of changes happening in downtown Fargo and none will be more noticeable than the skyline when the Block 9, 18-story high-rise is completed in the fall of 2020. Look for changes with on-street parking around the block as well.
City Division Engineer Jeremy Gorden says the changes are “unique” for a construction project but necessary. This a summary of the changes that will occur:
On the south side of 3rd Avenue N., switch from diagonal parking to parallel parking and create two 15-minute parking spots.
One the east side of Broadway, eliminate all parking on the south half of the block to allow more room for the plaza area, switch from diagonal parking to parallel parking on the north half, and create a drop-off zone and valet parking using 3 parking spots.
On the north side of 2nd Ave,. N., eliminate all parking on the west half of the block to allow more room for the plaza area.
The changes were reviewed by five committees, including the board of the Downtown Community Partnership, and the city commission before final approval this week.
The Block 9 project will include a new parking ramp that will be open to public parking. It will provide a net gain of 46 public parking spaces during business hours and 146 after business hours.
The $117 million Block 9 project will include a hotel, businesses and condominiums planned by Doug Burgum’s Kilbourne Group and RDO.
