Spending a few hours, seated at a table, eating good food and laughing with a cross-section of diverse and interesting people sounds like an excellent way to spend an evening. But if you were put on the spot and had to choose a group of celebrities you would most like to dine with, who would you choose? A friend asked me this very question about a week ago and I didn’t have an answer for him. In fact, I keep coming back to this query because it seems like you would have to choose wisely, so as not to create some kind of “clash of egos.” Where to start?
Well, I like to laugh and I certainly wouldn’t want anyone pretentious who would “put on airs,” as they say. My guest list starts with Jack Black. As far as I’m concerned, he’s one of the funniest guys out there and seems like a genuinely nice person. Hell! If we’re lucky, maybe he would perform a couple of Tenacious D songs after dinner. Bill Murray is another guy that I think would be fun, down to earth, and have some insightful pieces of wisdom to share. If you haven’t seen that Netflix documentary “The Bill Murray Stories” yet, you really should. It’s all about the spontaneous encounters people have had with Mr. Murray and how it impacted their lives. So far so good. Bill Murray and Jack Black…. I have no doubts that these two should be able to get along together just fine. Now, who else to add?
How about some of my favorite funny females? Amy Poehler, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin. I’m sure I would get to be an annoyance to them with all of my questions, but I would love to hear the great stories that they would have from their years working spent working at SCTV and SNL. Not to mention all of the other great work they’ve done over the years.
Musicians? Only one really… the great Jack White. I love that guy to death. He is absoluetly incredible. Plus, I would finally have Jack Black and Jack White together in the same room and could pitch my idea of them combining forces and becoming a musical duo called simply Black and White. I’m sure there are some other celebrities I would like in attendance but I’m running out of steam right now. Besides, how big of a party are we having here? If I’m going to get a word in edgewise we need to keep the guest list to a reasonable number. Okay, maybe Steve Buscemi and Spongebob writer KAZ could come too… but with this many people it’s going to need to be a pot luck!
