FARGO (KFGO) – An overheated dehumidifier started a fire that damaged a home at 1137 8th Street North in Fargo just before 4 p.m. Sunday.
There was heavy black smoke coming from the basement when firefighters arrived. The damage was limited to the dehumidifier and a water filtering system nearby. The fire was put out quickly but what burned was plastic, which released large quantities of the smoke throughout the home. Damage is estimated at $10,000. No one was hurt or displaced.
The brand of dehumidifier involved in the fire was recalled in 2013 because they were involved in numerous fires. The dehumidifiers are labeled under many brand names but are made by the China-based company, Gree Electric.
