WILLISTON, N.D. (KFGO) – Williston Police Department is investigating a father for child abuse after a five-week-old girl needed to be airlifted for non-accidental head trauma.
Officers responded to a local emergency room in response to a report of suspected child abuse earlier this month. Medical staff confirmed they found multiple contusions and bleeds on the brain of an infant patient, necessitating that she be flown to an out-of-town medical facility for life-saving measures.
Through further investigation, the Williston Police Department identified the infant’s father, Jacob Luman, as a suspect and arrested him for Class A Felony Child Abuse of a Victim Under six years old.
In the complaint filed on March 16, Luman admitted to violently shaking the infant girl multiple times and throwing a bassinet she was in against the wall, causing brain and retinal hemorrhaging and permanent injury.
Luman is currently in the custody of the Williams County Correction Center.
Officials say the investigation is currently on-going, and more information may be released as it becomes available. The infant girl’s current health status is not being released at this time.
