Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz
ST. PAUL, Minn. – Governor Tim Walz has signed a bill to fix current state law on use-of-force by school resource officers.
The state legislature sent the resolution to his desk yesterday after the Minnesota Senate passed the bill 61-to-3.
Walz says the SRO bill gives guidance and clarity to school resource officers and will allow them to do their jobs effectively.
Supporters of the bill say it keeps the limitation on use of chokeholds for all peace officers in Minnesota, and will require a statewide standard of training for SROs.
