MINNESOTA (KFGO) – Republican candidate for Minnesota Governor Lisa Demuth has announced what she calls her education comeback plan.
It focuses on the fundamentals of reading, math, and science, would audit schools to show where taxpayer money is going and fund safety measures for public and private schools.
“Minnesotans spend more per pupil than any other time in our history, yet our student outcomes have continuously dropped. We now rank below Mississippi in our educational outcomes,” Demuth said.
DFL candidate for governor, Senator Amy Klobuchar’s education plan, would partner with schools to provide regular tutoring, work with schools, parents and communities to track daily attendance and requires parent-teacher meetings for students behind in reading and math.
“We want to see achievement up and screen time in the classrooms down. What that means is evidence-based curriculum, but it also means banning cellphones from classrooms,” Klobuchar said.
Klobuchar’s cell phone ban has narrow exceptions for genuine emergencies and medical needs.
