Sep 19 (Field Level Media) – The Cincinnati Reds optioned outfielder TJ Friedl to Triple-A Louisville in a series of moves Saturday.
The Reds activated third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera and right-hander Zach McCambley, while right-hander Julian Aguiar also was optioned to Louisville.
Friedl, 31, was batting just .172 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in 91 games this season. His struggles have intensified since batting .279 with 18 home runs and 66 RBIs in 138 games in 2023.
In parts of six seasons, Friedl is a career .246 hitter with 58 home runs and 214 RBIs in 552 games.
Cabrera, 27, was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees on Sept. 16 and claimed by the Reds two days later. He spent most of this season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and is a career .232 hitter with 20 home runs and 95 RBIs in 304 career games with the Yankees over parts of five seasons.
McCambley, 27, made his major league debut in June and had a 4.15 ERA in eight relief appearances for Cincinnati.
Aguiar, 25, is 3-1 with a 6.23 ERA in eight relief appearances over two seasons for the Reds.
