DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO-KDLM) – Minnesota’s American Cilvil Liberties Union (ACLU) chapter is suing Detroit Lakes Public Schools for its policy that bans rainbow flags and stickers pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community.
Detroit Lakes’ school board voted to remove items that are not affiliated with the school in a four to two vote.
This specifically includes rainbow stickers, posters, flags, and buttons.
The lawsuit says that the policy is a violation of constitutional rights and it was decided without notify the public beforehand.
The school board’s decision is currently in effect.
