Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner
FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says he’s aware of the heightened emotions surrounding the construction of A.I. data centers and the potential for those emotions to lead to violent behavior, like they recently did at a city council meeting in Memphis, Tennessee.
Jahner says he’s attended a few data center town hall meetings as an interested citizen.
“For me, as the Sheriff, I want to get an understanding of what this is going to look like, how big this project is going to be,” he explained.
He wants everyone to know that the sheriff’s office is keeping tabs on these meetings to ensure peace and overall public safety.
Jahner says The Sheriff’s Office is nonpartisan and has no stance in favor of or against the construction of data centers.
“Our job is to remain neutral and provide that public safety piece if it’s needed,” he said.
The Sheriff’s Office adds they could be at meetings in either a proactive or reactive capacity.
Either a local authority, like the Harmony Township board, could request their presence in advance – or they could attend as part of their regular rounds.
