ELY, Minn. (KFGO) – The call said “an armed bear in the BWCA.”
A Minnesota conservation officer and an officer with the US Fish and Wildlife Service responded last week when a black bear ran off with a camper’s handgun.
Conservation Officer Mary Manning wrote in a summary that the camper had a handgun and in her words, “several delicious-smelling snacks” in a backpack. The bear stole the full pack.
The officers eventually found the backpack, partially shredded, Manning said, with “numerous empty snack wrappers.”
Found in the backpack was the gun, which CO Manning described as “undamaged.”
