HAWLEY, Minn. (KFGO) – A body has been found during debris removal after a house fire at a residence in rural Clay County on March 12.
At approximately 1:22 p.m., arriving fire departments found the residence fully engulfed in flames and worked to extinguish the fire. They knew an adult male was the only person who lived in the single-family home at 26627 43rd Avenue North through previous contacts. Clay County Deputy’s attempted to locate the homeowner but were unsuccessful.
Once the fire was out, construction equipment was brought to the scene to begin removing debris from the house and attempting to locate the homeowner. A body was found in the debris and was removed from the scene by deputies and firefighters. The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office for positive identification.
Responding emergency crews included the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Hawley Fire Department, Hitterdal Fire Department, Ulen Fire Department, Lake Park Fire Department, Hawley HERT, and Sanford Ambulance. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal was contacted and responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
At this time, the victim’s name has not been released.
