MINNEAPOLIS – A motivational speaker who says smartphones have become a crutch is urging teachers, administrators, and students to separate from their smartphones and connect with the humans around them face-to-face.
“How do we say yes to the benefits of tech, but not lose the one thing that got us here in the first place, which is human connection?” Minneapolis-based consultant Joe Beckman asked. “We know tech’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”
Beckman said the technology is not bad if we use it in a way that makes our world and lives better rather than a companion.
He also said it’s easier to look down at a phone than it is to look up because looking up is fraught with rejection and fear.
