WILLISTON, N.D. (KFGO) – The Williston Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion around 10:30 Friday night to respond to an oil field location just north of Alexander along Highway 85 in McKenzie County. One person was treated on the scene for severe burn injuries and was transported from the scene by air medical transport to a regional trauma center.
Initial reports were that several oil storage tanks had exploded, and one person was severely burned. The Alexander Fire Department responded with fire suppression efforts, and the Williston Fire Department provided ambulance response. At 10:32 p.m., Medic 2, Medic 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
At 11:03 p.m., WFD was requested to provide fire suppression support and responded with a water tender with firefighting foam capabilities from fire station #3. The water tender apparatus assisted with fire control procedures until the fire was extinguished at approximately 1:15 a.m. and was released from the scene at 1:31 a.m.
No additional injuries were reported as a result of the incident. Units responding from the WFD included Medic 2, Medic 3, Tender 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief. A total of 9 WFD firefighters responded to this scene.
