ST. PAUL, Minn. – A bonding bill for Minnesota public works projects is at least publicly in limbo at the State Capitol.
The House passed the $1.5 billion package this week, but Democrats also need Republican votes to pass it in the Minnesota Senate.
Republicans, like Stillwater Sen. Karin Housley, think it’s a waste of time and will be “dead on arrival” without any tax cuts.
Republicans have been pushing hard to totally eliminate state income tax on Social Security benefits. Some Senate Democrats support that, but leadership – including Gov. Tim Walz – says they won’t give tax breaks to wealthy Minnesotans.
