ST. PAUL, Minn. – Ramsey County prosecutors say a St. Paul police officer was justified in using deadly force in the shooting of an armed suspect in December.
Sgt. Cody Blanshan will not face charges for the death of 24-year-old Howard Holiday Johnson.
According to police, Johnson had a handgun and officers believed he was going to commit a carjacking when they struck him with a squad car. The criminal complaint says Johnson got up and fired his gun before Blanshan shot him ten times.
County Attorney John Choi said Blanshan’s life was in imminent danger of death or serious injury when he shot Johnson.
