DULUTH, Minn. – The official ribbon-cutting for Essentia Health’s new $900 million Saint Mary’s Medical Center is Thursday in downtown Duluth.
Dr. Robert Erickson, physician lead on the project, said the design is meant to “bring the outside in.”
“That is done with the glass structure (and) the patient rooms on the outside of all the floors, so they all have windows,” Erickson said. “The work area for the staff is generally on the inside.”
Nearly every room is private and has views of either Lake Superior or the Duluth hillside.
Erickson said they will begin admitting patients July 30.
Thursday’s ribbon-cutting is by invitation only, but there is a community open house Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
