WILLMAR, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a police officer shot a man with a knife Sunday morning in Willmar.
A 911 caller reported that they had been threatened with a knife and officers responded to a building downtown. An officer was talking to the suspect when he went through the doorway and charged at the officer with a knife.
Police say the officer gave repeated commands for the man to stop before shooting him. The suspect ran, but was arrested a short distance away. He was taken to the hospital in Willmar and later transferred to a larger hospital.
The officer was treated for minor injuries.
