LAKE ANDES, S.D. (KFGO) – A 16-year-old boy from southern South Dakota will spend 20 years in prison for the stabbing death of another teenage boy in 2023.
Gabe Montgomery of Wagner was given a 50-year prison sentence with 30 years suspended.
The stabbing happened during a fight on April 10, 2023 in Wagner. Attorney General Marty Jackley says Montgomery was tried as an adult because of the seriousness of the charge.
Montgomery will stay in a juvenile detention center until he is 18 when he’ll be moved to an adult prison.
