MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – A federal jury in Minneapolis convicted a Minnesota man on drug and gun charges after he was caught shipping methamphetamine inside stuffed animals.
Damien Shade, 48, traveled to San Diego, California in 2023 where he bought the drugs and shipped them by FedEx back to Winona. FedEx employees in Rochester notified law enforcement about suspicious packages.
A K-9 alerted the presence of drugs. With a warrant, officers opened the packages and found stuffed animals with the drugs inside. Officers removed most of the meth, replaced it with filler, and put a tracker sensor in the packages.
Officers tracked the packages to a Winona home and eventually to the home of Shade where they found the drugs and gun.
Shade, who was already a felon, was not supposed to have guns. He will be sentenced later and faces up to life in prison.
