HILLSBORO, N.D. (KFGO) – Multiple fire departments responded to a field on fire in Traill County Wednesday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office says the soybean field southwest of Hillsboro started on fire while the beans were being harvested. A caller reported the field was on fire and that the fire had jumped a road. Windy and dry conditions caused the fire to spread.
The Hillsboro, Grandin-Gardner, Hunter, Halstad, and Hendrum Fire Departments responded. Several farmers also responded and used tillage equipment to help fight the fire.
The Sheriff’s Office says the fire traveled about a mile-and-a-half and burned ditches, a row of trees, and approximately 60 acres of beans. No one was hurt.
A couple of hours after that fire was reported, another field fire was reported northeast of Mayville. The Mayville and Portland Fire Departments responded to that fire.
No crops were damaged and no one was hurt in that fire.
