Rep. Liz Conmy (D-Fargo)
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (KFGO) – A report from the National Transportation Safety Board has revealed some details about the plane crash that killed North Dakota state Rep. Liz Conmy of Fargo and the pilot.
Comny and her friend Joe Cass died when the plane went down in the Twin Cities suburb of Brooklyn Park around noon on April 25.
The report says the departure from Crystal Airport appeared normal, but shortly after takeoff, Cass said “abort, abort.” Air traffic control said the plane was clear to land on any runway. Airport video shows the airplane turn left before descending behind trees and crashing in a park. After that, the report says a large plume of black smoke is seen rising from behind the trees.
The plane caught fire. Brooklyn Park fire crews, police, and other first responders were on scene within minutes.
Conmy was in her first term in the legislature and running for re-election in District 11.
