Game 2
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 loss at Newman Outdoor Field to the Kane County Cougars.
The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead fueled by José Sermo, who crushed a two-run homer in the first and added an RBI double during a dominant four-run third inning that also featured run-scoring hits from Colby Wilkerson, Jake Hjelle, and Aidan Byrne.
Kane County refused to back down, staying within striking distance thanks to Alex McGarry, who cracked a clutch two-run triple in the third and a solo home run in the sixth. Down 6-4 in the top of the seventh, the Cougars’ bats caught fire against the RedHawks’ bullpen, tying the game on a Josh Allen RBI single and a Matt Bottcher fielder’s choice before a costly fielding error by the RedHawks’ right fielder allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate. Cougars reliever Logan Nissen then closed out the bottom half of the frame, striking out Jake Hjelle to seal the dramatic comeback and take both games of the double header.
