(KNFL/KFGO) – In the previous round of the 2026 NFL Draft, NDSU wide receiver, Bryce Lance, was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. His quarterback, Cole Payton, would be drafted a round later, being selected with the 178th pick in the 5th round by the Philadelphia Eagles. Cole Payton backed up current NFL quarterback Cam Miller, before starting all 13 games for the Bison in the 2025-26 campaign. Payton threw for 2,719 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was also known to run the ball very well, as he rushed for 777 yards, and 13 rushing touchdowns. Cole Payton led NDSU to a 12-1 record.
Cole Payton becomes the 5th NDSU quarterback to be drafted since 2016, joining Carson Wentz, Easton Stick, Trey Lance, and Cam Miller.
