SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks plated four first inning runs and never looked back, topping the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-4 at the Birdcage on Sunday.
The first inning scoring started with an RBI single and a three-run homerun in the top of the first. Sioux Falls would load the bases with three consecutive one-out walks in the bottom half. Mike Hart drove in two with a base hit to pull Sioux Falls within 4-2 after one.
Joe Vos walked with two outs in the second and scored on a double from Anthony Sharkas. The 4-3 score held until the fifth inning when the RedHawks tacked on an RBI double with two outs.
Chris Kwitzer homered to leadoff the bottom of the seventh but that’s as close as the Canaries would get. Fargo-Moorhead scored three times in the top of the eighth and the Birds stranded three runners on base over the final two innings.
Michael Curialle led the Sioux Falls offense with two hits as the Birds dip to 10-6 overall. The Canaries open a ten-game roadtrip Monday night in Winnipeg.
