HORACE, N.D. (KFGO) — A juvenile started a fire that filled a Horace High School classroom with smoke Thursday morning, authorities said.
Emergency personnel from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Southern Valley Fire & Rescue, and the West Fargo Fire Department responded to the school at approximately 10:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a structure fire inside the building.
When they arrived, first responders found a second-floor classroom filled with smoke. The building’s automated fire suppression sprinkler system had already activated, which officials credited with containing the flames entirely to the single classroom.
No injuries were reported.
Following an on-scene investigation by the sheriff’s office and Southern Valley Fire & Rescue, authorities determined that a child in the classroom was responsible for the fire.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Southern Valley Fire & Rescue are continuing to investigate the incident. Authorities stated that all investigative agencies will maintain close communication with the West Fargo Public School District throughout the remainder of the investigation.
