RAPID CITY, S.D. (KFGO) – A Sisseton South Dakota woman will spend 14 years in prison for drug possession and sharing drugs.
Laycie Williams, 29, received a 10 year sentence for giving out fentanyl pills. She was also sentenced to four more years for missing scheduled court appearances.
The U.S. Attorney’s office in Rapid City says the case began in February 2023 in Aberdeen, South Dakota when Williams received three fentanyl pills from Carlin Mellette, 30, and shared them with a woman at a home gathering. The woman took half of a pill and later died from a fentanyl overdose.
Mellette was sentenced last year to 25 years in federal prison.
Williams will spend three years being supervised after her prison sentence, and was ordered to pay nearly four thousand dollars in restitution.
