DelRae Williams, left, and Charley Johnson have filed for candidacy in Moorhead.
MOORHEAD (KFGO-KVRR) — Two well-known community names have filed paperwork to run for office in Moorhead.
Former Visit Fargo-Moorhead President and television anchor Charley Johnson has announced his intention to run for Moorhead city council. He has filed to run for the seat to represent Ward 4. Ward 4 council member Chuck Hendrickson is not seeking re-election.
Johnson most recently lead the the Fargo Convention Center Committee. He was a TV news anchor for nearly 40 years. He left TV to be Fargo’s tourism director, and retired from that job late last year.
Moorhead’s first female mayor is running for the job again. DelRae Williams has announced that she has filed to run for mayor with the city clerk’s office.
She was elected in 2013 and served one term as mayor, saying she loved her community but wanted to be active in other ways.
In May, she announced her intention to seek the Ward 1 council seat but changed her mind after Council Member Lisa Borgen announced her campaign for mayor.
Others filing to run include Council Member Ryan Nelson and Dalton Swanson in Ward 1. Heather Nesemeier is running for another term in Ward 2. Deb White is running for a third term in Ward 3 and has a challenger in Evett Ellis.
The election will be held November 3.
