Tuesday, August 4 FARGO — After posting a .421 batting average in July, Jose Sermo was named the American Association of Professional Baseball’s Rawlings Batter of the Month, the AAPB announced Tuesday.
“The Sermonator” recorded a 1.516 OPS over the month of July, smacking 11 home runs and driving in 36 runs.
Sermo is the first RedHawks batter to be named batter of the month since Peter Maris in August 2022.
During July, the veteran switch-hitter was named an AAPB All-Star and invited to participate in the Home Run Derby, where he clubbed 24 home runs enroute to taking home the Derby title.
In his first series back from the All-Star break, Sermo hit six home runs against the Chicago Dogs. He also drove in 15 runs, including a season-high seven in a 13-4 win on July 18. He also scored nine runs, worked three walks and collected nine total hits.
Sermo is currently tied atop of the American Association with 24 home runs. He also sits five home runs behind Sioux Falls outfielder Jabari Henry for first place on the all-time AAPB home run leaderboard.
The RedHawks team single-season home run record is 29, set by Jesse Hoorelbeke in 2010.
Overall in 2026, Sermo has slashed .320/.414/.676 with 41 walks and 16 doubles. His 1.090 OPS ranks second in the AAPB, while his 63 runs scored ranks third and his 72 RBIs rank first among all batters.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks return to Newman Outdoor Field on August 11 for the start of a seven-game homestand, taking on the Sioux City Explorers and Sioux Falls Canaries. First pitch is set for 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11.
