BISMARCK (KFGO) – North Dakota has its first reported human case of the West Nile Virus this year.
North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services says the case came from a Cass County resident and was hospitalized.
Health officials say people should protect themselves from mosquito bites while mosquitoes are active.
They recommend using bug spray, wear long sleeves, and limit time outside at night.
Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in five North Dakota counties including Cass, Grand Forks, Richland, Ward and Williams County.
Health officials say an animal in Sioux City and a bird in Richland County have also tested positive for the virus.
