(KNFL/KFGO) – Fargo-Moorhead got off to a rocky start in the series finale against the Milwaukee Milkmen, going down seven runs after the first two innings. The RedHawks would hand the ball to lefty Matt Walker to start this game, and he would face off against Milwaukee’s lefty Cody Templeton.
Fargo-Moorhead would find themselves in trouble early in this game with the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the first. Alec Olund would drive in the first run of the game with an RBI single. Griffin Doersching would then hit a bases clearing double to launch the Milkmen to a 4-0 lead. Carlos Linarez would round out the scoring for Milwaukee with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead.
In the second inning, Delvin Pérez would drive in a run with a single to center field. Matt Kroon would misplay the ball and that would allow Yordys Valdés to score. The RedHawks would have another error in the inning, with Juan Fernandez being charged with a throwing error that would allow Pérez to score.
In the third and fourth inning the RedHawks would get a pair of runs back, coming from sacrifice flies from Jose Sermo and Jesus Lujano respectively.
Juan Fernandez would close the gap even further for the RedHawks, blasting a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Aidan Byrne would drive in another in the inning with an RBI triple, making the score 7-6.
Milwaukee added another run in the sixth inning from another Alec Olund RBI single.
In the top of the ninth the Milkmen would add another two insurance runs coming from a Griffin Doersching RBI double and a Wendell Marrero sacrifice fly.
The RedHawks would go down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
RedHawks starter Matt Walker would only go 2.0 innings, giving up 7 runs on 10 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Walker would be credited with the loss.
Cody Templeton would go 3.0 innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, walking 6 and striking out 1 for the Milkmen. Reliever Matt Givin would pick up the win.
The RedHawks will continue a suspended game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Tuesday. That game will be followed by a seven inning game at Newman Outdoor Field. Pregame coverage begins at 5:40pm on 740AM/107.3FM The FAN, 740the FAN.com, and on The FAN mobile App.
